A lie gets halfway around the world before the truth has a chance to get its pants

Winston Churchil

The 'Big lie' (in German: Große Lüge) is a term in propaganda coined by Adolf Hitler. It represents an advertising method in the world of politics. In My Struggle, Adolf Hitler maintains that the failure in the First World War was unfairly accepted by German people due to the use of this method by the Jewish controling the press. In his description of the method, a lie must be so "colossal" that no one would believe that someone "could have the impudence to distort the truth so infamously."

The primary use of the Big Lie is documented in Hitler's famous quote:  "In the big lie there is always a certain force of credibility". Later, Joseph Goebbels, the Reich Minister of Propaganda put forth the theory with a slight difference, asserting that "the English" follow the Big Lie principle by lying big, and sticking to it in any situation.  It is said that Goebbels himself used his own version of the Big Lie method without attributing it to the Jewish or the Allies. This unreferenced-less interpretation is considered the most widespread example of Big Lie and according to that, Goebbels is commonly considered as the inventor of the Big Lie.
In page 51 of the report prepared during the war by the United States Office of Strategic Services in describing Hitler's psychological profile, we read: "His primary rules were: never allow the public to cool off; never admit a fault or wrong; never concede that there may be some good in your enemy; never leave room for alternatives; never accept blame; concentrate on one enemy at a time and blame him for everything that goes wrong. People will believe a big lie sooner than a little one; and if you repeat it frequently enough people will sooner or later believe it."

Absurdity is a multifarious game, the blatant reality of our contemporary society. Everything heads towards annihilation in a weird order. Hitler, the Church and the Flat Earth no longer exist. Everybody walks in small paces. An observation of the flow of everyday life reveals a Big Lie; from Big Bang to incarnation and Newton Rules; all devised in favour of control, destruction, power. This massive battle of being may be burnt to the root anytime by a single spark which may completely extinguish the human being. However, all these intermingled words recite a story, which looks fascinating, challenging, and gorgeous to the human mind. Pleased by the intricate, pathetic texture of our minds, we open our lives to lies as big as the whole world, the whole humanity and as deep as our own existence.‏A simple google search reveals noteworthy examples of the Big Lie. The size of the lie is in close relation to the user's character and lifestyle. One finds examples of Hitler, science fiction movies, stepping on the moon, the duped people having lost all their belongings, the conventional governmental lies, Gold Quest, the mournful weblogs of the young centering on love, the biggest lie ever, 9/11, America's attack to the Middle East, 10 big lies of the seditious, Nostradamus, the return of the Savior and much debates regarding the elections in Iran and Afghanistan. Here, which one appear a lie, and which one is bigger? Which one is believable and which one is conspiracy? In this exhibition, I am going to examine your interpretation of the Big Lie, including the very Big Lie of your own mind. ‏Farid Jafari Samarghandi‏Winter 2011
